What had long been the remit of digital champions such as Amazon or Google has become something that every company must take note of. We all need to learn to align our business decisions with data, to extract the maximum value from our data and to interconnect and integrate it. In short, we need to make data our daily business – if we still want to have a business in 5 years’ time.
Data has become more complex and varied. It is no longer just about transactions. It involves structured and unstructured data, movement and sensor data, core data, metadata – and interpreting data is becoming ever more demanding, both technically and functionally. This means that data is no longer just a task for IT – every department needs to get involved with it. Analysts at Gartner confirmed as much in their report entitled Data and Analytics Leadership Vision for 2017: ‘Processes, roles and functions that deal with data, information, analytics and algorithms are moving outside of IT.
Parallels can be drawn between this development and the development of i-views. At the start, we concentrated on optimising the use of networked data and representing it, specifically as a graph. We also focused on making data intelligent – giving it meaning by using semantic technologies. For a long time, it was only i-views specialists who performed this modelling work and used the networked data by way of queries, conclusions and graph algorithms.
In recent years, however, we have learnt – primarily from our customers and partners – that the great potential of semantics and graphs lies in making data comprehensible to both computers and people – and even to specialist departments :-). Accordingly, we have concentrated on simplifying the modelling and use of data in our Smart Data Engine product. Back in version 4, we took a major step forward by simplifying the usability, re-engineering the interactive graphic query definition and using open interfaces.
We are now resolutely continuing along this path by using a graphics tool to configure web applications – modelling instead of programming. Additional new functions, such as faceted search and improved performance, help our customers get even more out of their data. Give it a go!
P.S. For those who have been with us for a while: Everything is going to be simplified; we have even taken this into account by simplifying our branding – k-infinity 4.3 has become i-views 5.0.
